Where is Chipeta & Ridgway, Colorado ?

We are centrally located on the San Juan Skyway. Many of our guests that are traveling on San Juan Skyway found our hotel accommodations as a great stopping point.  We are the cross roads to southwestern Colorado, as Ridgway is the  gateway to the  San Juan Skyway.  Ridgway is also located midpoint  between Montrose, Colorado and Telluride, Colorado at the intersection of highways  CO62 and US550.  Ridgway  is just 15 minutes from Ouray, Colorado.  Other towns along the Skyway include:  Ouray,  Silverton, Durango, Cortez, Delores, Rico, and Telluride.

Two National Parks are in close proximity to Ridgway and the Chipeta Sun Lodge.

Mesa Verde National Park and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison are an easy day trip from Ridgway.

Activities at Your Door Step

Out the front door from the Chipeta Solar Springs Resort & Spa is the all new Ridgway Athletic Park. Amenities include: Wedding Pavilion, Multi Stage Skate Park, Baseball Diamond, Basketball Court, Tennis courts, and Soccer fields.  Stay and Play.

Visit the Ridgway Railway Museum at the corner of Hwy 50 and 62.  It has a great collection of fully restored train cars from the mining era and plenty of old photos and exhibits reflecting the rich mining and train history of the area. Housed in the same building is the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce with helpful staff and lots of tips about the region.
Walk or bike right from the Chipeta on the paved Uncompagre Riverway Path.  Visit the Dennis Weaver Memorial Park along the way to the  Ridgway State Park and Reservoir, 10 miles to the North , with camp sites, boat docks, water-skiing and wake-boarding, hiking and biking paths, fishing, and wildlife campfire talks.

Telluride, Colorado

The world famous Telluride Ski Resort and town is only 43 miles from Chipeta Solar Springs Resort & Spa. In the winter the ski area is a bustling arena for many skiers and snowboarders. Telluride boasts that their terrain can provide suitable experience for all levels. From “refined groomed runs to challenging moguls”. Telluride is one of the most diverse ski areas in the nation. It has been called the “most beautiful place you will ever ski”. In the summer the town becomes a playground for many festival goers, as there is a festival almost every weekend from May to September. The downtown area has many shops and restaurants that could occupy an entire day. The surrounding mountain terrain allows for hiking and mountain biking. Telluride Golf Course, open from May to mid- October, accentuates the mountain terrain as meandering fairways wind through aspen groves, towering pines, mountain ponds and sparkling streams. In either winter or summer, Telluride provides a wide spectrum of activity. While in Telluride ride the free gondola that will take you on a scenic path from downtown Telluride to the center of Mountain Village. Visit Ouray just a few miles to the south of us as you head to Red Mountain Pass. This Victorian Mining town has a rich History from the turn of the century. Don’t miss the Ouray Museum , Box Canyon falls, Ouray Hot Springs and much more. There’s plenty of shopping, dining, hiking and jeeping .
