Idyllic settings amongst the mountains, soothing warm waters and the day focused on your relaxation and rejuvenation. Where are we? Local hot springs in the San Juan Mountains!
As late autumn temperatures continue to drop on the fast path into winter, soaking in local natural hot springs under crisp Colorado sunshine is undoubtedly the most relaxing way to spend your day. Below, we’ll take you on a quick tour of these outdoor, picturesque places to soak – though we highly suggest you experience them for yourself!
Ouray Hot Springs.
Ouray Hot Springs is situated just within the city of Ouray and is surrounded by stunning 13,000 foot mountain peaks. These geothermal heated mineral pools range from 104 degrees to around 75 degrees, which offer a welcome contrast in temperature to cater to any season for soaking and swimming.
These year round hot springs are a staple in the San Juans, operating since 1927. And while the warm waters are packed full of soothing minerals like iron, manganese, zinc, fluoride and potassium – they are pleasantly free of sulfur. That means no unpleasant Sulphur smell.
Orvis Hot Springs
Orvis Hot Springs takes serenity to a whole new level. Fresh mountain air and a tranquil garden-like setting await you at Orvis Hot Springs, just a short five minute drive from Chipeta. Orvis Hot Springs boasts ten unique pools and ponds filled with natural lithium waters that are not treated or heated in any way, with water temperatures ranging from 65 degrees to 112 degrees. What are the benefits of lithium waters, you might ask? The high lithium content is known for naturally melting away stress and anxiety, and is also believed to reduce the effects of arthritis and eczema. These healing waters are also Sulphur free!
Forgot your bathing suit? Prefer to soak sans swim trunks? No problem at Orvis, which is one of the few clothing optional hot springs in Colorado.
Chipeta’s Solar Heated Pools
While not naturally fed, our thermal soaking tub and pool both still offer relaxation and rejuvenation right outside your door. Both pools are centrally located in the courtyard of the resort, with panoramic views of the Cimarron and San Juan Mountain Ranges. Our soaking pool offers a tiled roman bath setting, with a temperature of 103 degrees, and our larger lap pool is heated to 85 degrees throughout the winter.
Want a more private soaking experience? Be sure to book one of our accommodations that offers a private hot tub on your patio!
