The Sherbino and Gypsy Jazz Social Club.. a winning combo for a great night of live music.
Gypsy Jazz Social Club, a consortium of versatile musicians scattered throughout western Colorado commonly inspired by the style of acoustic string-band jazz known as “Le jazz hot,” comes back for another great show at the Sherbino.
Great for those dance enthusiasts, GJSC is mysterious… yet strangely familiar, the and embraces the acoustic swing sound pioneered in the 1930s and 1940s by Django Reinhardt and others. Today this sound and style of music is enjoying a resurgence in popularity among musicians and jazz aficionados alike. GJSC showcases material dating from the early 1900s to present day, sourcing traditional and modern repertoire, all “gypsified” for your listening and/or dancing enjoyment. The GJSC performance includes vocalized and instrumental arrangements of jazz and swing standards, Latin-rhythms, and original material, as well as contemporary and traditional gypsy tunes. For this evening, GJSC comes with a 5-piece ensemble, with a line-up of Les Choy, Drew Murdza on the mando, Lizzy Plotkin on violin & voc, Guy Stephens on guitar, and Bob “B4” Bainbridge on upright bass.
