Have you recently found yourself wanting to plan a romantic winter getaway with your special someone? Spending Valentine’s Day weekend in the mountains will surely make your sweetheart smile. And Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year, so it’s even easier to escape to the mountains for a romantic weekend getaway.
What are the most romantic things to do in the mountains, you might ask? We’ve got you covered! Here are some of the most romantic places in and around Ridgway to celebrate your love – not only on Valentine’s Day, but all winter long.
Top of the Pines
True love can take your breath away – but so can the stunning panoramic mountain views from the Top of the Pines, just a short distance up County Road 5 outside of Ridgway. Top of the Pines offers a pristine location with over 4 miles of groomed trails for Nordic skating and classic flat track skiing, as well as snowshoe trails.
Ski or Snowboard Telluride
A beautiful mountainous 45-minute drive will take you into Telluride, one of the most brilliant and historic ski towns in the world. At Telluride Ski Resort you’ll find ski terrain suitable for all abilities, from first time skier to hike-to terrain like Gold Hill, Palmyra Peak and Black Iron Bowl. Nothing spells love like a bluebird day and fresh powdery snow. As we publish this month’s blog Telluride is estimated to receive a FOOT of new powder over the 1/23-1/24/2021 weekend.
Uncompahgre River Trail
In the middle of winter, regular old hiking is not as easy to come by. But you can easily bundle up and cozy into your partner’s embrace to take a stroll down Ridgway’s portion of the Uncompahgre River Trail. The trail is fully paved and maintained throughout the winter, and is easily accessible straight from Chipeta’s doorstep. The trail, which runs primarily on the same former Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad corridor, can be as long or short as you like as it extends all the way into Ridgway State Park’s Dallas Creek entrance. You’ll be surrounded by majestic sights – from the Uncompahgre River, to bald eagles frequenting the riverside, to the Dennis Weaver Memorial Park, which offers 60 acres of permanent wildlife preserve. Don’t forget to grab a cup of coffee to go from our great room to keep you warm on your travels.
Stay and Soak
It’s a beautiful thing to go swimming in the middle of winter and we’ve got that part covered at Chipeta Solar Springs! Lounge away the day in our thermal soaking pools with magnificent views of the San Juan and Cimarron mountain ranges surrounding you.
Treat yourselves at our Spa
Relaxation and love go hand in hand, so don’t forget to pre-book your spa experience sooner than later.
