Six reasons to book your Chipeta reservations now for enjoying June in Southwestern Colorado.
#1–Fish, Paddle or SUP at Ridgway State Park Water Recreation
Known as the Gateway to the San Juan Skyway, Ridgway’s great outdoors is home to a five-mile-long reservoir within Ridgway State Park. It’s a top pick for anyone into boating, fishing and hiking along the extensive trail system.
Or for Southwestern Colorado guided fishing and white water rafting treks, check out RIGS Adventure, the region’s go-to source for water action in Ridgway State Park and beyond. Sign up for guided rafting treks or rent kayak and SUP gear to experience the water at your own pace. RIGS also offers hourly gear rentals at Ridgway State Park June 15-August 15, with full-day rentals from May 15-June 14 and August 16-September.
#2–Hike, Bike or Run Along Ridgway Area Trails
Hiking thrives within the San Juan Mountains with Mt. Sneffles and Cimarron Wilderness among the top picks. Blue Lakes Trail is a 7.9-mile moderately trafficked trail primarily used for hiking, fly fishing and horseback riding from June through October.
Ridgway Area Trails also delivers more than 40 miles of single track within interconnected trails in and around the town of Ridgway.
The southern section of the Uncompahgre Riverway Trail is a 4.3-mile–long paved section of the Uncompahgre Riverway Trail that goes through Ridgway State Park and south into the Town of Ridgway. This section has beautiful views of Mt. Sneffles and the San Juan Mountains, accessible directly from Chipeta Solar Springs Resort.
Also check out Ouray Trail Group’s Perimeter Trail, a unique six-miler with four waterfalls, five bridges, up-close geology and a hidden troll. Parking space is available behind the Ouray Visitors Center.
#3 Family Fun at Chipeta Resort
Family fun thrives at our Southwest Colorado resort. We’re surrounded by two parks offering tennis courts, basketball, soccer fields and a skateboard park. We also have a Ti Pi specifically reserved for kids at our T Lazy P Ranch ti pi courtyard. Borrow a complimentary mountain bike to ride along the Uncompahgre River path to Dennis Weaver Memorial Park.
#4–Ouray Mountain Air Music Series
Held on Thursdays in June, this annual music event welcomes fans all ages (including well-behaved leashed pets). Pack a picnic or purchase food and beverages from local vendors. The Ouray Mountain Air Music Series 2019 line-up includes: June 6 – The Outer Vibe with Jack and Jill; June 13 – Nora Jane Struthers with the Casey Jack Kristofferson Band; June 20 – The Brevet with Wildermiss; June 27 – Desi Valentine and A.J. Fullerton.
#5–Telluride Bluegrass Festival
The good news is that Chipeta Solar Springs Resort still has a few rooms available for the Summer Solstice and 46th Annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival June 20-23. With music on the main stage, intimate workshop performances at Elks Park and late-night indoor NightGrass concerts, this is considered the “granddaddy of the modern festival circuit.”
On June 29, the Ridgway RiverFest rolls out as a family-friendly celebration with all-age river races, live music, local food and drink, kids’ activities, silent auction, and watershed educational and cultural programs. The highlight of the day is the infamous “Junk of the Unc” race, where boaters maneuver craft constructed from scrap materials through .5-miles of whitewater rapids and others’ junk to the finish line.
