Activities for Your Mountain Getaway in Colorado
There’s a multitude of adventure activities everyday during your mountain getaway in Colorado. The San Juan Mountains are accessible from our front door here at Chipeta Solar Springs Resort. We love to walk, or bike the Uncompagre bike path along the river, mountain bike the variety of local trails, ride horses, fly fish and hot air balloon. There’s plenty of wildlife viewing found year-round, as we are located on the edge of State and National Forests, home to elk, bear, deer, marmots and more.
A little known fact about Ridgway: This is the home of the Grammy Awards! True Grit was also filmed here, and with many famous surrounding ranches the annual Labor Day rodeo is an unforgettable event. Ridgway boasts a great microbrewery; Colorado Boy, as well as many interesting shops and great restaurants.
Visit the Dennis Weaver Memorial Park along the way to the Ridgway State Park and Reservoir, just 10 miles to the North, with camp sites, boat docks, water-skiing and wake-boarding. You’ll also find hiking and biking paths around the lake with fishing, and wildlife campfire talks.
Ask our receptionist to book your next adventure!
Athletic Park
Our front door at Chipeta Solar Springs Resort & Spa has access to the Ridgway Athletic Park. The athletic park amenities include a wedding pavilion, multi stage skate park, baseball diamond, basketball court, tennis courts, and soccer fields. Winter activities include three cross country ski tracts from Red Mountain, Top of the Pines, and Telluride locations. Snow shoeing, snowmobiling, and of course world class skiing at the Telluride Ski Resort.
Museum
For a little bit of history on the region, visit the Ridgway Railway Museum at the corner of Hwy 50 and 62. The museum has a great collection of fully restored train cars from the early mining era along with plenty of old photos and exhibits reflecting the rich mining and train history of the region. The museum is located in the same building as the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce with helpful staff and lots of tips about the region.
