What’s On Your 2021 Bucket List?

/ News

The 2021 New Year is here and many of us are beyond ready to ring it in with new goals and resolutions (seriously – who isn’t ready for a New Year!?) If adding more travel and new experiences is on the top of your bucket list, let us share with you a few of our favorite things to do in Ridgway and surrounding areas, in the coming year!

Winter Activities

The last two months of 2020 brought us more snow than we’ve seen in years, making outdoor winter activities even more enjoyable as we head into the New Year.

Downhill Skiing

Telluride Ski Resort has been reporting powdery conditions, with over 90 open runs as of the end of December. Spend your days skiing in Telluride, then venture down to Ridgway for your evening soak and small town vibe. Check out our Ski and Stay and Winter Romance Ski Packages before you book! )

Just a 45- minute scenic drive up Red Montain Pass you will find Purgatory Ski Resort, complete with over 1,605 acres of  terrain. The resort’s 12 lifts allow visitors to access 101 trails and 7 terrain parks.

If you’re looking for a smaller, affordable family fun ski experience,  Kendall Mountain Ski Area in Silverton is now open, with one lift servicing a handful of Easy to Difficult ski runs. Kids age five and under ski for free!  There’s also a free access ice skating rink nearby, and sledding for the whole family!

Cross-country skiing & Snow Shoeing

Cross country skiing and snowshoeing offers a serene mountain experience, and there are plenty of trails within a short distance from Ridgway! Glide around a ghost town on Ironton Park’s 2.1 mile groomed Townsite Loop Trail on Red Mountain Pass. Or head to Ridgway State Park or Top of the Pines where the snow is great and the trails are expansive. The view is not to be missed. Both trails are just a few miles from town. Keep your eyes open for the neighbors too . . . mule deer and elk, of course!

Hot Springs

After your daily adventures, soothe those sore muscles with a soak in Chipeta’s solar heated hot pools, your own private hot tub, or Orvis Hot Springs and Ouray Hot Springs Pool.

Restaurants, Breweries and Local Shopping

While the dining experience looks a bit different this year with necessary safety precautions in place, restaurants, breweries and local shops are still open! Check out Ridgway’s most popular dining locations.

Ring in the New Year with the gift of travel to the San Juan Mountains. Take-on the great outdoors and all of the great winter activities offered. Then retreat back into Chipeta bungalow to slip on your monogrammed robe and enjoy a well deserved Signature massage in the on-site Spa and dip into solar heated pools or your private hot tub.
